What are the Types of Public Transport that Students can Avail in Wellington

 Well-known as the cosmopolitan capital city of New Zealand, Wellington is home to an extensive public transport system comprising five types of transport facilities, namely city buses, trains, ferries, cable cars, and taxis. The railway network is operated under the ownership of Transdev Wellington with trains that run on a five-line 154-kilometre (96 mi) commuter network. There are five train lines operating currently in Wellington, namely- Hutt Valley Line (hvl), Johnsonville Line (jvl), Kapiti Line (kpl), Melling Line (mel), and Wairarapa Line (wrl).



 


Cable Car

Another major benchmark achieved by the public transport in Wellington are the network of Cable Cars that run between the central city towards the suburban hills of Kelburn. It is a system that is regularly used by students of Victoria University, by commuters travelling to and from work, and also by those who want to travel and explore Wellington Botanic Garden. The service is governed and operated by Wellington Cable Car Ltd. 


Ferries


Wellington also operates ferries mainly for recreational purposes but these are also viable means of transport available for the public. There are two ferry routes that are operated by ‘East by West’, a private company. The service plies daily between central Wellington and Days Bay which is situated near Eastbourne. The service also runs on peak times serving Seatoun and also takes tourists and students to the ‘Harbour Explorer Excursion’ on weekends.
